Boolean Operator: AND
Now that you've identified multiple search terms, it is time to start combining them together into your search statement. The Boolean Operator AND combines terms together for a more narrow and refined search. This type of search requires all terms appear in each retrieved record and is very similar to a "all of these terms" search in a web search engine.

The AND area represents which records would be displayed in the search engine's results list. For best results, use the AND operator to connect major concepts not synonyms. |
Boolean Operator: OR
Another way to combine search terms together is with the Boolean Operator OR. The OR operator combines terms together for a broader search. This type of search requires any of the search terms to appear in each retrieved record and is very similar to a "any of these terms" search in a web search engine.

This area represents which records would be displayed in the search engine's results list. For best results, use the OR operator to search related terms, synonyms, or variant spellings. |
