Considering Topic Ideas

Choosing the right topic for your research -- one that you want to invest time in and one that has sufficient information -- is a critical decision in the research process.

Your interest and motivation to learn about the topic will greatly influence the quality of your final product. Consider the following:

What do you really want to write about?

What you spend your time on should count for something that is worthwhile. Consider carefully your interest in the subject, the value of your work, the time you will be investing.

  • Use your creative instincts.
  • Think about your own experiences, background and prior learnings.
  • Explore issues within your field or an area of interest in your major.
